Exponential Diophantine equations

要旨

This survey talk starts with a brief exposition of the seminal results of Thue and Siegel, who proved the finiteness of the number of solutions for wide classes of Diophantine equations. We then mention some spectacular applications of Baker's theory of linear forms in logarithms. Next, we explain why, since a decade or so, we are able to give the complete list of solutions for some classes of (exponential) Diophantine equations. We end by outlining the proof that 1, 8 and 144 are the only perfect powers in the Fibonacci sequence.
